Petroglyphs on the rock wall
On our first trip to Fort Robinson to ride on the annual Western Working Morgan Club ride, we flew to Wyoming to our friends' Tony and Meredith Sears ranch and traveled with them to Ft. Rob and rode two of their Morgans. Dan on the right above on Ember, one of their Morgan mares, crossing Soldier Creek.
Fort Robinson was a U.S. Calvary Remount Station in the beginning in the 1800s and at it's peak had 18,000 horses and mules on station. It is now a Nebraska State Park of 22,000 acres with horses, buffalos, big horn sheep, deer, miles of trails, fishing, and numerous historical buildings and sites. Letha on the right at the head of the riders on the open plain.
Letha on the Sears' Morgan gelding, Ratchet, climbing up out of the creek bed.
Fort Robinson is in the northwest part of Nebraska in butte country; rolling plains with buttes and hills poking up . Above is a ride heading out from the fort towards some of the buttes which can be quite high and forested with pines and other trees.
Dan and Letha on Ember and Ratchet on top of the buttes we were heading to in the picture above.
